About River Oaks, Oakville
River Oaks is a planned residential community in north-central Oakville, bounded roughly by Dundas Street East to the north, Upper Middle Road East to the south, the Sixteen Mile Creek valley to the west and Trafalgar Road to the east. River Oaks Boulevard loops through the centre of the community, with Sixth Line providing the main north–south connection through it.
The area's rural history reaches back to the 1820s, when the crossroads here was known as Munn's Corners after early settler Daniel Munn; Munn's United Church and its pioneer cemetery still stand on Sixth Line. The modern community took shape as north Oakville transitioned from farmland to planned subdivisions, with most housing built from the late 1980s through the 1990s and early 2000s.
Housing consists mainly of two- and three-storey detached homes and townhomes on a planned street network, along with some apartment and condominium buildings near the arterial roads. Streets are organized around parks, school sites and stormwater ponds, with walkways connecting residential crescents to the wider trail system.
The River Oaks Community Centre on Sixth Line anchors local recreation with an ice rink, fitness facilities, squash and racquetball courts and rentable community rooms. Along the community's western edge, wooded trails follow the Sixteen Mile Creek valley, one of Oakville's largest ravine systems.
Commercial services concentrate along Dundas Street — including the Uptown Core shopping district near Trafalgar Road and Dundas — and along Upper Middle Road, while the Trafalgar corridor connects south to the QEW and the Oakville GO station on the Lakeshore West line.

Is River Oaks the same as its school?
No — three things share the River Oaks name and it’s worth keeping them separate. The River Oaks community is the MLS® neighbourhood (how listings are grouped), while River Oaks Public School is a specific school with its own attendance boundary.
A school’s catchment can include homes outside the MLS community — and not every home in River Oaks is necessarily assigned to the same school. Because boundaries are drawn by the school board, the only reliable way to know a home’s school is to check the specific address.
