In Ontario, every publicly funded school has an attendance boundary — the geographic area whose students it serves. These are often called catchments or school zones. Each of the province’s public and Catholic district school boards sets its own boundaries, so a single address usually falls inside four separate zones at once: public elementary, public secondary, Catholic elementary and Catholic secondary.

Boundaries are redrawn as enrolment shifts, new schools open and developments are built, and a boundary review can move an address from one school to another. DistrictIQ maps 2,322 catchments across 50 cities and holds profiles for 2,916 schools, drawn from board-published boundary files, Ontario Open Data and the Ministry of Education.

School performance here is shown as EQAO results — the province’s standardised reading, writing and mathematics assessments, reported per test against the city-wide average. EQAO is one input among many and is not a ranking of school quality.
